Phil Leppla

Phil Leppla (he/him) serves as the Deputy Director and In-House Counsel. As Deputy Director, Phil assists in supervising SOPEC staff and overseeing the daily functions of the organization. He coordinates with SOPEC’s Executive Director in preparing long-term strategies to achieve organizational goals. As In-House Counsel, Phil handles a range of legal issues affecting the organization and a managerial role overseeing and collaborating with outside counsel. Phil has earned a BA in political science from The Ohio State University and a JD with an environmental law and governmental relations concentration from Capital University. Phil’s passion for protecting the environment and creating a sustainable future grew after taking an undergraduate course related to climate change. He wishes to spend his time and energy (pun intended) working to accelerate the transition away from fossil fuels to clean energy as quickly as possible. In his free time, Phil enjoys spending time with his wife, Heather, and daughters, Sydney and Norah, hiking, cycling, live music, and rooting for Ohio State and Cleveland sports teams.
