Do Not Knock Program
Tired of Unwanted Door-to-Door Energy Sales?
Many for-profit energy suppliers go door to door offering what appears to be a low introductory rate with the promise to lower your electricity bill, only to raise prices after locking customers into contracts. In response to ongoing reports of aggressive and misleading sales tactics, the Sustainable Ohio Public Energy Council (SOPEC) offers its Do Not Knock program to help shield residents from these solicitations.
SOPEC Will Never Knock on Your Door
SOPEC is committed to helping residents secure competitive energy rates without pressure or hidden terms. We do not engage in door-to-door sales and will never ask residents to sign complex contracts. By securing energy at bulk rates, SOPEC passes along competitive prices to its customers, providing consistent savings without the gimmicks.
How to Enroll
To participate, first verify that your community is a SOPEC member community and has passed No Knock legislation. Then, complete the registration form provided below. Once you’ve completed the form, you will receive a window cling to place near your entryway, signaling that sales visits are not permitted.
What If a Solicitor Still Knocks?
If a for-profit salesperson comes to your door, inform them that your community has passed Do Not Knock legislation. If the solicitor continues, you may report the encounter to your local police department, which could lead to penalties for the solicitor. For utility-related sales complaints, residents may also file a report with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.
